Having spent a lot of time in Dallas, Texas (my father’s home), which has an abundance of great burritos shops, from the gas stations stores to the fancy Tex-Mex Restaurants, I was never really able to find a casual but high-quality Mexican spot in Toronto-until now.
A place that really delivers on that Texas style of Mexican food with a nice spicy and freshness to it with really rich and interesting flavours, a burrito is not just all the cheese, rice and beans heavy filling found at most Mexican restaurants in the city. It has to be tasty and fun.
That being said, I gave myself the homework to explore Toronto’s burritos options and here are my 5 Favourites spots in the city.
224 Adelaide St W (Duncan St), Toronto, ON
These burritos are stuffed to the heavens with fresh veggies, meat and rice, chicken burritos are super good! steak and shrimp as well. The service is quick and you can mix and match anything you like, very clean and really tasty.
Try that lightly battered fish burrito, is heavenly well done.
2.- Chipotle Mexican Grill
323 Yonge St (Yonge & Dundas), Toronto, ON
Mouthwatering burritos, I got the steak burrito with fajita veggies, chilli corn, cheese and mild tomato salsa, absolutely delicious!
This place is always ridiculously busy but staff are like ninja burritos, they are fast preparing these tasty guys.
Portions are a bit small compared with other chains but I liked the fact is always busy, it means food is always in rotation and fresh. Tasty Lunch for $10 to $12, you can not go wrong with that price.
552 King St W, Toronto, ON
Trendy/hipster place to have a good Mexican street food in the Fashion District of Toronto.
This place is very casual and the services was incredible fast, during their lunch rush I received my order in 5 minutes, and everything was well prepared and fresh, they offer a variety of sauces and salsas and the decor is really nice, clean and modern,
Portions are fairly large and very tasty.I highly recommended.
4.- Big Fat Burrito
529 Bloor St. W (at Lippincott St.), Toronto, ON
Just as the name, they are big and fat, they are really huge, tasty and very much work the price, chicken or steak they are both satisfying.
Personally, I like they grill their burritos as the last step, it makes the inside of the burrito really hot and makes the tortilla just a tiny bit crisp, the veggie and the steak burrito are the best.
5.- Fat Bastard Burrito Co.
1180 The Queensway, Etobicoke, ON
I got the buffalo chicken burrito, every bite was full of flavour, there is always a lineup, but if you do wait though you will not be disappointed. All the fillings here are good, flavourful and the ingredients look fresh.
The two vegan options: sweet potato or grilled vegetables with rice, beans, salsa, lettuce, tomato are just delicious. Friendly staff and fast service.
Now that you know about some good options, and the summer is here, a burrito is a great option to grab “on the go” for any summer activity you are planning to do. Easy to carry on and you can have all your veggies, carbs and protein rolled in a warm tasty flour tortilla.
Don’t wait more, go and grab one!, I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I did. Buen Provecho! (bon appetit).
