Taco Types

There are many traditional varieties of tacos, some of which include:

Tacos al Pastor.

Tacos Al pastor/ De Adobada (Shepherd Style), these are the most popular tacos In Mexico, steak pork seasoned with adobo and marinated for 24 hrs, then skewered and overlapped on one another on a vertical rotisserie cooked and flame-broiled as it spins. Similar to shawarma. The characteristic of its toppings is cilantro (coriander), chopped onions, a slice of grilled pineapple and your favourite salsa.  Oh and don’t forget to squeeze a lime. Yummy!

Tacos de Asador (grill tacos)

Tacos de Asador (spit or grill tacos), just like the name, beef grilled until crisp or chorizo asado (traditional Spanish-style sausage), served in two overlapped small tortillas and garnished with guacamole, onions, salsa and cilantro (coriander).

De cabeza or Head cow tacos, a serving of the muscles of the head, sesos (brain) Lengua (tongue), cachete (cheeks), trompa (lips) and ojo (eye), tortillas are steamed and served with salsa, onion, and cilantro (coriander).

Tacos de Camarones (shrimp tacos), originated in Baja California Mexico, fried or grilled shrimp, served with cabbage or lettuce, pico de gallo, avocado and sour cream or citrus mayonnaise sauce, placed in a corn or flour tortilla, and of course, add your favourite salsa.

Tacos de lengua (beef tongue tacos), cooked in water with garlic, onions and bay leaves for four hours minimum or until tender, then sliced and sautéed with a bit of oil.

Tacos de Pescado (fish tacos)

 

Tacos de Pescado (fish tacos), originated in Baja California Mexico, grilled of fried fish, lettuce or cabbage, pico de gallo and sour cream.

Tacos dorados or Flautas (Fried tacos or Golden tacos).

Tacos dorados or called flautas, (fried tacos or golden tacos), these tacos are filled with chicken or beef sheered, rolled like a tube shape or flaute shape and deep-fried until golden and crispy. You can garnish with lettuce, radish, queso fresco (Mexican cheese) or you can use feta cheese instead, sour cream, avocado and salsa, Every crunchy bite is delicious! Omg! I’m so hungry right now! Tacos sudados (steam tacos), soft tortillas filling with spicy meat, placing in a basket and covered with a cloth, this keep tacos warm and steamed making them soft.

Most of the restaurants and taco stands offer as a garnish or sides, grilled cambray onions, slices of red radishes, limes, and a full collection of salsas. Do you want to know how to make salsa? don’t miss my next blog.

    This is so informative for people who love tacos and those who do not know what are missing out.
